FAQ

Audio/Video transfers

What will it cost to digitize my VHS/Hi8/Video8/Digital8/DV/cassettes/etc?

Prices for most standard jobs are detailed here, get in touch for anything not covered!

How will I receive my digitized media?

Entirely depends on your needs! I can deliver the finished product in whatever format or medium works best for you. If you don’t know or are unsure, I’ll gladly run through your options with you.

What’s your turnaround time?

For smaller jobs, turnaround can be as quick as same day as they media is received (if the transfer is to be delivered digitally). Keep in mind that all transfer work is done in real time so if you’re looking to have a weeks worth of video digitized it’ll take at least that long.

Are there any restrictions on what you will/wont transfer?

No hard restrictions on content but I prefer not to deal with Macrovision encoded VHS (most commercial home video releases) only because 9 times out of 10 there’s no real reason to do so. However, in the case of video that may not have been released on a more modern format OR there’s a valid reason to make a transfer (different edit, superior mastering, etc) then I’m willing to bend on this.

tl;dr anything goes!

I film bands on VHS/Hi8/DV/etc or I have a large collection of tapes I traded for in the 80s/90s/00s, do I get any special deals?

Yep! Transfer work is free (or darn near) for ANY media relating to live music. My passion is for the preservation of live recordings, particularly in the indie/punk/metal/experimental sphere but all genres are welcome. Get in touch for details!

I don’t record live music but I’m an amateur filmmaker/musician and need some tapes transferred for a project, what about me?

Much like folks who tape live shows, I work for dramatically reduced rates for any kind of video art, amateur film project or similar. Being an artist in any field is a constant financial struggle and I’m here to help however I can!

I want to send in my collection of live tapes/shows I’ve recorded but I know you post transfers to Youtube don’t want to see them end up on your channel

Nothing sent in for transfer will ever be posted online or shared with anyone without explicit, upfront consent! Privacy is something I take very seriously whether it’s a home video or a 90s death metal show. All content on my channel is either shot personally by me or taken from my own personal tape collection.

Do you retain copies of the media you digitize?

Only upon request! I can store your files for 30 days, 90 days, or indefinitely to essentially serve as a backup in case your copy gets lost or damaged. Alternatively, I can also delete your files the second they get delivered so you have the only copy.
